About this event

CARE© is a leading evidence-based wellbeing and suicide awareness program that addresses the health needs of people living and working in regional, rural, and remote communities, particularly those working in farming, agribusiness, and other agricultural industries. CARE© has been developed in rural communities for people in rural communities, using best evidence and practice-based experience spanning many years. The CARE© program has been evaluated and shown to improve health outcomes, such as mental wellbeing, as well as knowledge, confidence, and skills to be better able to recognise and respond when others may need a hand.

Workshop Details

The CARE© Wellbeing and Suicide Awareness workshop (CARE©) focuses on health and wellbeing including what factors can contribute towards, or detract from, overall health. With an Australian rural perspective in mind, the workshop also looks at mental illness and suicide presenting a contemporary theory of why people die by suicide. The latter part of the workshop goes through the CARE action plan: Connect Ask Refer Encourage, to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be able to have conversations with others and assist them to further help if required. Participants can interact throughout the workshop and ask questions, as well as practice new skills.

Research Study

At the workshop, you will be invited to take part in a research study aimed at further evaluating the effectiveness of the CARE and OzHelp support programs which will help build on the existing evidence base for rural wellbeing and suicide prevention. Your participation is completely optional, however, if you do choose to participate, your involvement is sincerely appreciated.

You will have the option of completing a very brief survey before and after the training, and three months later. This survey will take 15 minutes each time and will ask you about your thoughts on mental health/wellbeing and training in rural Australia. Your responses will be kept completely confidential and are very valuable in our evaluation. Thank you.

Online health check

We invite you to complete OzHelp’s free online Workplace Tune Up (WTU) health check in advance of the workshop. The WTU is a health screening tool that provides individual participants with a confidential report based on their self-assessment across multiple health and wellbeing domains. Please click here to complete the WTU.
